The Xander Afrikaans Spel apps were specially created in partnership with WOW (Woorde Open Wêrelde) at the University of Stellenbosch. The WOW national spelling bee is the top Afrikaans school spelling competition in South Africa. Xander used the top spellers in this competition in various grades at a number of schools in the greater Cape Town area to record the absolute best voices and spellers for these apps. My name is Stella Malan, I am 9 years old and I go to Laerskool Jan van
Riebeeck.
Did you like recording for the Xander apps and why?
Yes. I got paid R100! And when we recorded the apps I was already missing the competition, so it was a way of remembering good times. It was also nice to see Roy.
What’s your favourite app or game to play?
Xander is my favourite. Obviously! I also play Minecraft and paint pictures with a paint app on my mom’s iPad.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be like Kenneth Newman, but a female version. I want to write a book about birds. I like birds and birdwatching; OR I want to write ghost stories about girls walking over graves with knives in their hands.
What is/ was your favourite bedtime story?
I like “Jakkals en Wolf’’ stories because the bad guy (Jakkals) never dies and sometimes the good guy (Wolf) even fails, so it’s not goody-goody; I don’t like goody-goody stories.

Did you like recording for the Xander apps and why?
I enjoyed the recording of the Xander apps because it was exciting when I was busy sounding out the words.
What’s your favourite app or game to play?
My favourite game is Hair Sailin.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I would like to be a fireman when I am all grown up.
What is/ was your favourite bedtime story?
My favourite story is Rapunzel and The fox and the stalk.

My name is Angela, I am 13 years old and I go to Laerskool Stellenbosch.
Did you like recording for Xander apps and why?
I really loved recording for the Xander app, because I love to spell the new words and to learn them. We had lots of fun by making jokes and so on (and I sound pretty cool on the app).
What’s your favourite app or game to play?
I am currently addicted to Slither.io and Mmm fingers.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up, I definitely want to become a successful business woman, I’d like to be a CEO or start my OWN company.
What is your favourite bedtime story?
My ultimate favorite bedtime story would definitely be Cinderella.

Tell us about yourself?
Hi, my name is Tes-Adri Page and I am 17 years old. I am in Grade 11 at Lückhoff High School in Stellenbosch. I love being part of school projects and I’m a journalist for our school newspaper “Die Bloekomblad”. My hobbies include reading and playing the piano.
Did you like recording for Xander apps and why?
I loved recording for the Xander app because it was something I had never done and new experiences are always welcome. Years ago I would never had imagined myself doing something like that.
What’s your favourite app or game to play?
I do not really have a favourite app or game but I am a teenager and I love being on social media.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Growing up there are many opportunities in journalism and music but my passion is helping people.I would love to become a doctor.
What is your favourite bedtime story?
I don’t have a favourite bedtime story nor did I have one when I was younger but my mother taught us a very special prayer.
