This month we meet Sarah Booyens and talk to here about her blog, Mascara & Mimosas, as well as her family.
Tell us about yourself?
I’m Sarah, Wife to Dan and first time mom to our little girl Aria (one year old) and fur baby Moose. Originally from Cape Town, we have settled in Johannesburg and last year we bought a house that we are planning to renovate over time to become our dream home. On the weekends you will probably find us taking the kids for a stroll around our local markets, eating a delicious breakfast or sitting at the pool; Aria is a complete mermaid at heart.
Tell us about your blog
Mascara & Mimosas started off as a beauty blog, but when I fell pregnant for the first time and then miscarried, I decided that I wanted to document my story in the hopes that I could help someone going through something similar. When I fell pregnant for the second time, it only felt natural for me to start to include that side of my life into my blog. I like to have a good mix of beauty reviews and tutorials as well as reviews on parenting/baby goods plus some personal posts as well. I like to write from experience and so my posts are always honest and often candid.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
I think it’s absolutely wonderful! It’s so awesome how the methods of teaching have changed since I was at school and let’s face it, technology is here to stay so we may as well embrace it!
What are your kids favourite apps?
Aria is a bit too little to use any apps but she loves to watch Instagram stories and Snapchat!
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
I know it is so cliché but I love the diversity that we have in this country – we have so many different cultures and belief systems and I want my daughter to be exposed to and learn from all of them.
TV “Yes” or “No”?
When she reaches that age, yes, but limited.
What is in the lunchbox?
Lunch time generally consists of some yogurt, fruit and some cracker bread.
How do you balance it all – in one sentence?
Lots of lists, lots of coffee and lots of help.
Do you children do chores at home, if so what and how do you manage it?
I wish I could get Aria to do the dishes! As soon as she is old enough, we will start to give Aria a few chores around the home. Things like cleaning her room, packing away her toys or feeding Moose.
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
We love going to the coast and are lucky enough to have family both in Cape Town and Durban. Aria (and I) love the water and it’s so wonderful for Dan to just have some decent downtime, away from the city.
Catch up with Sarah on her blog, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and SnapChat (mascaramimosas).
