Say hi to another awesome blogger we love here at Xander. We spoke to Lindi Mogale from A Well Heeled Woman about life, family and blogging.
Tell us about yourself?
I am a wife and mom of 2 boys. During the day I work in the field of change management. I love to do event planning and I am considering doing it as a business one day. I am also a very creative person. We are a crazy bunch of very strong-willed people which makes for an interesting life. We love to travel and read. My first born son is about to turn 9 and the youngest is 2 years old.
Tell us about your blog?
My blog is called A Well Heeled Woman, named after my love of shoes. It is a lifestyle blog for women and men, who are juggling family, work and other commitments. It is about bringing inspiration to everyday activities, being more present so that our lives are fulfilling. It also is about being a modern woman in the African context and co-existing between your traditional and modern life. I love to feature tools, products and tips that I think make it easy to be a mom juggling so many things.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
I personally love technology; I think it definitely has a place in helping children to learn. Both my eldest son and I have ADHD and technology is a great help in our learning of new things. Like everything else in life I believe it can hinder growth if not used in moderation but then that is a parent’s job; to find the right level and apply it.
What are your kid’s favourite apps?
JW.Org app and Youtube even though its not really an app.
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
I love that our family is here so our kids have a sense of belonging. I love that there is a strong cultural influence on them, that they are speaking both their mother and father tongue, that we are such a diverse society and that it is truly an exceptionally beautiful country.
Suppertime tips for parents with young children?
We use a special plate, spoon and cup that the child that is stored in an are easily reachable for the child. Make eating an adventure; make it a family activity, sitting together. Start children on healthy food options early, so they get used to it being a way of life.
TV “Yes or “No” ?
Yes sometimes my kids watch TV but they are limited to certain amount of hours per day and I am strict about what they watch. I personally don’t want much TV unless I am checking out a programme that they’re watching.
What is in the lunchbox?
In my house the only person who gets a lunch box consistently is my eldest son, since he is going to school, the little one is still at home. On days when my husband and I make lunch it’s usually fruit, water and leftovers from last night’s dinner. My eldest son’s has fruit, a sandwich, nuts or dried fruits, a juice, his water bottle.
How do you balance it all – in one sentence?
I do not balance, I prioritise based on what is important for the family that week.
Do you children do chores at home, if so what and how do you manage it?
My eldest son has to make his bed, take out his clothes, polish his shoes, tidy up his mess and occasionally wash dishes. The 2 year old must pick up his toys and put his dishes in the sink after every meal – and he is already complaining about just that. I believe children should have chores and be responsible for their own parts around the house.
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
Anywhere where there is water, and we can explore new surroundings where we have never been, I love that. My children are game for anything that gets their adrenaline pumping.
