Tell us about your blog?
My blog recently won the 2016 African Blog Awards for Top Personal Blog in Africa! Caffeine and Fairydust is a personal Lifestyle and Parenting blog that mainly focuses on the journey of motherhood and our alternative lifestyle that goes with it. The aim of my blog is to leave readers feeling inspired, with an open mind and knowing that there is nothing wrong with being a little different.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
I think it is pretty awesome. My one and a half year old can barely put a sentence together, but he can unlock my iPhone and swipe through photos! I think games, apps, etc are a great way to help our little ones learn, but It’s really important that kids connect on a personal level to what they’re playing. Are they engaged? Engrossed? Maybe even enlightened? If not, chances are they won’t learn much.
What are your kids favourite apps?
You don’t want to know…. Snapchat. For real.
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
I love the diversity, we have so many cultures and languages – it is amazing. It is also so beautiful here.
Suppertime tips for parents with young children?
Bribery…
TV “Yes” or “No”?
Everything in moderation… And make sure you are aware of what your kid is watching.
What is in the lunchbox?
Our kids get their meals at school, thank goodness! They have their breakfast, lunch and snacks there and the school is very up to date with healthy eating plans etc.
How do you balance it all – in one sentence?
Fake it till you make it…. and always have a chilled bottle of wine in the fridge (it will keep you calm).
Do you children do chores at home, if so what and how do you manage it?
Mikayla has just started – her chores are to clean her room on weekends and feed all the pets every day. At this point she is doing really well. I am busy setting up an award chart for her.
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
Going to the countryside or visiting my parents on the farm – there is nothing better!
