Meet another Xander Mom, Angie Batis. She told us a bit about herself, her blog, her family and parenting choices.
Tell us about about yourself?
Hi my name is Angie, I’m a mom, a wife, a photographer, a blogger, I co-own Mr Big Stuff Diner in Braamfontein and I own an online social media company called Golden. My life is full of all sorts of good people and things and sometimes (who am I kidding, most times) I cry during reality shows like MasterChef Junior and So You Think You Can Dance.
Tell us about your blog?
My blog, Lucky Pony has been with me for over 8 years now, it’s an extension of me. I always say it’s like an online diary that’s been left on the kitchen counter for everyone to read. I love it because it’s a true documentation of my life and what I’m into.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
I think it’s a good thing but in moderation. The future is all about technology and there is no getting around it, so our youngins might as well learn from when they are exactly that, young.
What are your kid’s favourite apps?
My child is obsessed with YouTube, I think it’s because she can watch a never ending stream of nursery rhymes and videos of Yo Gababa.
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
It’s a beautiful country full of beautiful things, what I like about raising my kid here is that she’ll be exposed to so many different cultures and people.
Suppertime tips for parents with young children?
These days I find that bribery works haha. Oh man, I think I would do anything to get Nina James (that’s my kiddo) to eat all her supper.
TV “yes” or “no”?
She does watch a bit of TV, but we try limit it as much as possible.
What is in the lunchbox?
She’s a stay at home baby still, so lunchbox is full of whatever mom is having for lunch
How do you balance it all – In one sentence?
I don’t think it’s entirely possible to balance it all, doesn’t matter who you are. Life is always changing and just when you think you have it all beautifully balanced out something comes along to challenge you, whether it be in a good way or bad, but that’s life and you just have to go with it. Sorry that’s a super long sentence.
Do your children do chores at home, if so what and how do you manage it?
Nope, Nina James is still too young for chores – lucky kid.
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
Going to the beach or swimming in a pool, she absolutely loves it and it’s literally a fight to get her out. I love seeing her so immersed in something that she loves in a way only a kid knows how.
