This month we meet fun-loving Durban dad, Don about his blog The Don Father and life as a dad to gorgeous baby girl, Gia.
Tell us about yourself?
I’m Don, a passionate about life bloke who likes writing amongst other things. I live in sunny Durban with my wife Milly, and our 15-month-old daughter, Gia.
Tell us about your blog
In a world on pregnancy and babies, I found very little, if anything directed at dads/soon to be dads. I created The Don Father in hopes of inspiring and equipping dads and new dads with that platform of content, reading and a good laugh.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
Technology is the future, so it is vital that our children benefit from it when it comes to learning. Technology offers a large opportunity for learning, so we should embrace it and welcome it in with open arms.
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
The culture, the weather, the people, the food! What’s not to love. We live in a beautiful country rich in a history that has built it up to where it is today. Would I choose to live anywhere else in the world? No. South Africa is home and always will be.
TV “Yes” or “No”?
My wife and I definitely. Sometimes the best downtime is a bowl of popcorn and the latest episode of Suits. For little Gia, her TV time is limited.
What is in the lunchbox?
All sorts. Gia has the most delicious, well balanced lunch box. From warm honey oats for breakfast to Full fat plain yoghurt & fruit for mid-morning snacks, and whole-wheat cheesy pasta for lunch.
How do you balance it all – in one sentence?
‘I’ don’t, parenting is a collaborative partnership, my wife and I balance it all – together.
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
We just had a trip down the coast. We are always up to something, going here, going there. Experiencing new places and doing exciting things with Gia. The world is an amazing place when you are that young, so every day is an adventure for us.
