Tell us about yourself and your background?
My name is Natalie Petersen. I live and work in Stellenbosch. I am an Operations Manager for Tribage App Studio, we make educational and social impact apps for other companies and organisations. I love cats and I’m the oldest of 5 children. I also used to teach English in Asia after I finished my degree at the University of Cape Town.
Explain what an operations manager does in 5 words?
Get things done on time.
What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
So far I’ve enjoyed working with our developers at AvoChoc on the Xander Afrikaans Tyd project. It’s really cool to see an app start from nothing but an idea and watch it grow to be such an awesome, really fun way to learn something as tough as telling the time. And the developers are pretty cool to work with as well.
Why do you think educational apps are important?
I think technology should not be separate from learning, and that includes educational apps. I think children and even adults can learn while having fun both in a formal and fun setting like a classroom or your free time. I think if we try to keep the learning and technology apart the learners will suffer a gap in their learning.
What’s your favourite personal app and why?
I have many favourites but I love Pinterest the most I think. It allows me to find things I want to see and learn in categories that interest me. I find great recipes and yoga tips on there almost every day.
