Meet this week’s Xander Mom, a dear friend of the Xander family, Rebecca Rivett. She took time out to talk to us about her family and raising her daughter in South Africa.
Tell us about yourself?
I’m a most-the-time mom who manages to fit in a few hours work every day while my child is at school. My husband and I call Stellenbosch home. We love living on a farm where our little girl and her dog get to spend hours outdoors most days.
How do you feel about using technology as part of learning?
100% behind it. It’s the world we live in. There should be a balance between online and the real world though.
What are your kid’s favourite apps?
Xander ABC and Youtube kids.
What do you love about South Africa and raising your children here?
Freedom. Paces to explore. Fantastic schools with hands on child carers. Being exposed to many different people from many different backgrounds.
TV “Yes” or “No”?
Yes, when mom needs a glass of wine.
What is in the lunchbox?
Fruit, cucumber, carrots, popcorn, cheese and biscuits, yoghurt, muffins and biltong.
How do you balance it all – in one sentence?
Planning a lot, but still trying to be flexible knowing.
Do you children do chores at home, if so what and how do you manage it?
Yes, picking up dirty clothes, packing away toys and helping carry in groceries (things a two year old can manage)
What is your favourite holiday plans/ activities with kids?
Going to the beach and hiking.
